Greetings from St. Mary’s Cathedral School, where we have been teaching and learning in Christ for over a century! I hope that you will not only take the time to explore our website, but visit our school in person. St. Mary’s Cathedral School was founded in 1913 and remains in our beautiful historic building in Amarillo. Our school is involved in an active relationship with St. Mary’s Cathedral Church.
Currently, we serve 170 students in our Montessori Preschool through 5th grade. Our unique class size also allows teachers to maximize instruction while actively working to meet the needs of all learners. St. Mary’s Cathedral School is a special place. We have seen great growth in our academic offerings, security initiatives, facilities projects and school branding. Our teachers and staff have cultivated excellence in teaching practices to ensure students are successful academically, socially, and spiritually. With an increasing population of students with special needs and disabilities, our school can additionally focus on providing services for children with documented learning needs.
Our curriculum program is designed to reach the needs of the individual learner. This incorporates national content standards, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools. Unlike our counterparts in the public school system, an emphasis is not placed on standardized testing. The Iowa Assessment and the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) are administered each fall, but the emphasis is placed on a celebration of knowledge. Test results illustrate academic growth and assist our school in improving instruction.
Catholic identity is strong in the school, and you will feel that in the moment you walk through our doors. Students pray daily for and with each other and their teachers, and we attend an all-school Mass weekly. Different religious days are recognized throughout the school year to celebrate our faith.
I invite you to explore our school and learn more about the spiritual and academic programs offered at St. Mary’s Cathedral School.
