St. Mary's Cathedral School is staffed with a Learning Support Specialist to meet the needs of any students who have been granted admission with a documented learning need. The Learning Support Specialist works closely with classroom teachers to provide support in order to target specialized needs each child may have, but also provide for detailed learning outcomes in order to help individual students experience success.
We additionally have a teacher trained in the Dyslexia Intervention Program, through Region 4.
Some examples of assistance a learning support specialist could provide include small group pull-out work, individual pull-out lessons, support within the classroom setting (inclusion). The Learning Support Team includes classroom teachers, the learning support specialist, and school principal. The individual case of each child is reviewed in detail to determine what levels of support could be offered to scaffold instruction for each indvidual student.
